Legend has it that if you make a wish when you see a shooting Star your wish will come true. It is believed to have originated in Europe around AD 127 - 151. The Greek astronomer Ptolemy wrote that the gods - out of curiosity - peer down at the earth from between two spheres. Stars sometimes slip out of this gap, and fall down becoming visible to us as shooting stars. Since the gods are already peering down at us, they are more receptive to any wishes we make!
When you face the direction in which the earth moves, you can see a shooting star - especially just before dawn.
Keep a wish handy just in case...
